Wins EVDO Handset PCBA Project from China Telecom

Shanghai, 13 July 2010

SIM Technology Group (SIM) announced that one of the EVDO (Evolution-Data Optimised) platform developed by Shanghai Simcom Limited, its wholly-owned subsidiary, has secured the EVDO handset PCBA tender sponsored by China Telecom on 25 June.. The EVDO handset PCBA may be used by multiply handset OEMs like Nokia, Lenovo, Skyworth to develop their handset terminals for China Telecom. Despite that many manufacturers participated in the bid, Simcom secured one of the two tenders already announced. The tender win is yet another recognition from China Telecom on SIM besides the “Most Innovative Handset Design Award” won by SIM’s CDMA products last year.

The tendering program of handset PCBA projects demonstrated the increasing support of China Telecom to CDMA/EVDO terminal manufacturers. The “one PCBA for multiple handset” business model enables the handset terminal manufacturers to shorten development cycle and lower production cost.  China Telecom plans to increase offering of more competitive CDMA/EVDO handset terminals and achieves its target of selling 50 million CDMA/EVDO handsets this year.

Mr. Zhang Jianping, Executive Director of SIM Technology, said, “Since 2008, SIM has invested vast R&D resources to develop CDMA- and EVDO-based products, and fostered close business partnership with China Telecom.  SIM has extensive R&D experience , strong supply chain management and a comprehensive product portfolio . These capabilities will allow SIM to play a significant role in further expanding the customer base of China Telecom’s CDMA business and contribute to the CDMA industry value chain”.
